The Woodies are a Woodstock based, all year round tennis coaching group for Mini Tennis players in the area. Running teams for Woodstock Tennis Club, the Woodies are one of the strongest Mini Tennis clubs in Oxfordshire, recruiting many new players to the game, getting them competing and winning team competitions and tournaments. Autumn Coaching
Marlborough School Sportshall, Woodstock
We are pleased to announce new sessions for Mini Reds, Oranges and Greens, indoors at the Marlborough School from Wednesday September 10th. You do not need to be a member of a club to attend these sessions, in fact many players who play for other clubs attend these sessions to get some extra indoor tennis over winter. All of our coaches are LTA trained and we follow LTA coaching guidelines closely.
You can book online by clicking onto the registration tab. There are 12 sessions from Wednesday September 10th, 17th, 24th; October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd; November 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th and December 3rd. If you would like to attend a session before committing to the series, then just complete the form and indicate which session you would like to attend. We charge slightly extra per session for those not attending the whole course.
Mini Reds (for 2003 to 2001's) - from 5.45 to 6.30 - Price £50 for 12 weeks
We can set up to four Mini Red courts (on badminton court lines) with Mini Tennis nets and play with indoor Mini Red foam balls. Rackets, nets and balls provided, players need to bring indoor sports trainers, suitable sports clothing and a drink.
Mini Orange (1999,2000 and 2001 team) - from 6.30 to 7.30 - Price £60 for 12 weeks
We set up two Mini Orange Courts using Orange lines, play with Mini Orange balls. Rackets, nets and balls provided, players need to bring indoor sports trainers, suitable sports clothing and a drink.
Mini Green (1999 and 1998) - from 7.30 to 8.30 - Price £72 for 12 weeks
We set up one full size tennis court and will play with Mini Green balls / softer yellow balls. There will also be a practice zone set up for players to hit against the wall. This is an opportunity for 1997/98's to play also if they are unable to make yellow ball sessions elsewhere. Players need to bring indoor sports trainers, suitable sports clothing and a drink.
Woodstock Tennis Club
The Woodies team coaching will continue on Fridays from 5.00 to 6.00 for Orange / Reds and from 5.00 to 6.00 for Greens; until the end of September. We will then bring the sessions forward to 4.30 till 5.30 for a further 2-3 weeks in October. Sessions are £5 per player and are for team players and members of Woodstock Tennis Club only. From September, the 1999 / 98 born players will also start to play yellow ball as part of their conversion to the next age group.
Indoor Tennis at White Horse, Abingdon
There are four dates where the Woodies have opportunity to play on the indoor courts at White Horse Abingdon. These are all from 4-6pm on Sunday 7th September, October 5th and 19th and November 23rd.
Mini Red Tournaments at Marlborough School, Woodstock
This winter, My Club Coach are organising several Mini Tennis Red Tournaments at the Marlborough School. These will be held on Friday evenings from 6.15 to 8.00pm at the Sportshall. The dates are October 10th, November 7th, January 9th, February 6th and March 6th 2009. You can book online at www.tournaments.myclubcoach.co.uk
There are new dates for players wishing to play Mini Tennis (and Junior Tennis) arranged at Stonesfield Village Hall and Stonesfield Tennis Club. Visit www.stonesfield.myclubcoach.co.uk Junior and Mini tennis coaching will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
2008 Match Results
The Mini Red squad of Charlie, Jude, Jamie, Issy and Saffy have won the Marlborough division (finished on June 28th) of the league, beating Witney, Wychwood and Banbury West End. They have qualified for the County Finals to be held at White Horse on Saturday 6th September.
The Mini Orange squad competed in a division against the same teams. The Woodies beat Witney, drew with Banbury West End and had a walkover against Wychwood. The squad was Ben, Charlie, Taysie and Elisha. The Woodies won the division overall and have qualified for the Regional Finals at Bradfield on Sunday 14th September 2008.
The Mini Green squads competed in the National Junior Club league 10&U events. The boys: Hal, George, Ben and Paddy and the girls: Bethany, Taysie, Elisha and Elodie competed well, but were up against three very strong clubs. Final league tables can be found online at

2008 Success Stories
The winners of the Oxfordshire LTA Winter Mini Orange League (Oct 07 to Mar 08)
The Woodies just beat White Horse (by winning one more set!) in the winners finals on March 15th. In third place were Banbury with Witney in fourth. The Woodies qualified for the finals by winning the Esporta division which included Esporta Oxford, Oxford Sports and Thame.
Runners up in the Oxfordshire LTA Winter Mini Red League (Oct 07 to Mar 08)
The Woodies Red team, were second to White Horse Abingdon in the league winners final at White Horse on March 15th. St Hughs were in third and Lower Windrush in fourth. The Woodies qualified by winning the Marlborough league; beating teams from Banbury Town, West End Tigers and Hook Norton.
